        Task Ambient Lighting

Tambient task ambient luminaires mount to open office panel systems and worksurfaces. They provide task and ambient lighting using a single lamp. This eliminates the need for task lights and ceiling luminaires, establishes comfortable luminance ratios, and saves energy.

To design a task ambient lighting system:

1. Plan typical workstations to include a task ambient luminaire at the primary task zone(s). Where possible, use linear luminaires to spread direct illumination over large areas of task surface and vertical surrounds (privacy panels).

2. Group workstations to share indirect ambient lighting. For the most uniform and pleasing environment, orient adjacent stations to distribute the luminaires throughout the office.

3. Calculate the lighting unit power density (watts/ft2) to verify the ambient lighting level. Include circulation aisles when you calculate the office area, and compare to the chart below. (In rare cases, where workstations are large and/or densities are low, additional task ambient or ambient-only luminaires may be required to achieve these levels.)

Watts / ft2 Ave. Room Illuminance
0.6
18 - 20 footcandles
0.8
24 - 26 footcandles
*Probable initial illuminance at 30" A.F.F. with 54" high partitions

4. Locate wall washers at interior walls and window treatments at the perimeter to balance distant luminance ratios.

5. Choose any open office furniture system. Then, select corresponding luminaire mounting details and Tambient mounting accessories.
